Religion is not the problem. People are the problem. Religion hasn’t universally solved the human created problems that predates organized religions.
There are usually two groups of extremists when it comes to religion. Those who make the blanket judgement against religion as the problem of humanity and those who try to impose forcefully or manipulatively impose religion on others.
There is no manipulation, exploitation and wickedness known to mankind today that wasn’t done by humans before the establishment of organized religion. That people use religion to justify their ignorances, human propensities for domination and control doesn’t mean it was sanctioned by the religion. Today, the vast majority of the adherents of organized religions rely largely on the agenda setting interpretation of clerics.
The worst crimes and evils committed by religious adherents were mostly influenced by the teachings of a self appointed custodians of those religions.
If declared that religion is the problem of mankind today, the same logic can be applied to science and technology. It is not science and technology that made sarin gas, anthrax, atomic bombs, cluster bombs etc. It is humans who used science and tech to create those weapons of destruction. Same science and tech has been used to heal and cure people. To improve general efficiency of thousands of processes.
Religion takes on the behavior and attitudes of those who profess it.
I see religion like Money. Money takes on the behavior of it’s possessor. The same verse or texts in the holy books that make one individual to be a better person could be interpreted by another to become a mean and evil person.
Religious adherents must know that the overall perception of any religion will be judged by the adherents of that religion.
If religions are completely banished, humans will still do all what they’re doing now.
North Korea is an Atheistic State. How does being an Atheistic State make them more humane? The communist party isn’t led by either Islam nor Christianity. People are freer in Iran than in North Korea. So, which religion is to be blamed in this case?
